Riding with the maya
(A 6 part series coming soon)
'Riding with the Maya' retraces a trip I made in 1995 when I bought a BMW R100GS in Los Angeles and rode through Central America looking to buy a dive shop. The shop didn't pan out but the adventure did. I covered 13,000 miles in two and a half months and came away with many happy memories with perhaps the Mayan ruins of Guatemala being the most vivid.
Twenty three years later and with my son in tow I revisit those same ruins on the same bike. From Uxmal in the Yucatan to Palenque in Chiapas and Tikal in Guatemala we retrace that first journey as we ride with the Maya.
Shots from the road
This time it was only six weeks and 10,000 miles, though the adventure was just as sweet.
